It's time to take a trip way back to the very beginning of the Earth. Working alone or in groups of two, you will choose a period of Earth's history to investigate.
You must describe what the Earth was like during the time period you chose:
- What was Earth's surface like?
- What was our atmosphere like?
- What were our oceans like?
- What was the climate like?
- How were the continents arranged?
- What sorts of life forms (if any) were around, and where were they?
- Which major events/extinctions occurred during this time?
- Include the name of your time period and the dates (from the GoogleDoc).
You will assemble all of your information and create a poster which illustrates all of these facts.
The posters will be displayed in the hallway, stretching from oldest to most recent. We'll be able to walk down the hall and see how our Earth has changed since its creation over 4.6 billion years ago!
Here is a link to a decent version of the Geologic Time Scale, with some basic information.
Here is a link to the GoogleDoc, where you can sign up for your time period.
This Interactive Feature from NOVA gives a great overview of the history of life on Earth.
We will have only two days in the computer lab for this project, so work quickly and efficiently. Have fun!
